Black Button Straight Rye Whiskey

This straight rye whiskey is a limited release from the Rochester, NY distiller. The rye mash bill is made from 100% New York grains (95% rye and 5% malted barley).

Black Button Straight Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: High rye content on the nose with a whole-grain cracker aroma. Softer vanilla notes smooth and balance the grain spice and tame the intense oakiness.

Palate: Well-rounded upon entry, it quickly opens up into a charry rye vista. This is a serious whiskey that means business. Equal in flavor to higher proof ryes, this is a surprise for only 42% alcohol. The oak has pushed deep into the spirit creating an intensity that will stand up to more than a splash of water.

Finish: A tasty young rye with a slightly sweet finish.

Distillery Information

The Black Button Distillery is a small business set up and run by Jason Barrett, which takes its name from his family’s long history of producing buttons for men’s suits. Barrett broke tradition, and instead of taking over his grandfather’s button factory, he turned to distilling. Barrett opened the distillery at the age of just 24, in 2013. Back then, it produced just one Gin and a couple of moonshines (or white Whiskies). Today, the distillery’s portfolio has expanded to include three Bourbons, a Vodka, and another two Gins due for release in 2017.
