The company produces a large range of wines but is best-known for the Carinena (Carignan) and Garnacha (Grenache) grape varieties. The company was established in 1997 when a number of regional cooperatives and grapegrower associations (Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Villanueva de Huerva, San Roque de Alfamén, San José de Aguarón, San Bernabé de Cosuenda and the Sociedad Agraria de Transformación de Cariñena) combined to form the Grandes Vinos Y Viñedos cooperative. The company counts around 700 grapegrowers from the Cariñena region, covering around 4500 hectares (11,000 acres) with a range of grape varieties. Although the the Cariñena grape is synonymous with the region, it is only the fifth most-grown variety across the winery holdings.
