The distillery closed very shortly after in 1899, and did not reopen until 1965, thanks to purchase by Glenlivet distillers. Benriach closed again in 1998, but was reopened in 2003 by a consortium led by the legendary figure Billy Walker (who also turned round Glendronach and Glenglassaugh before moving on to Glenallachie).
