An absolutely stunning 30-year-old from Speyside’s smallest distillery, Benromach. It was matured exclusively in first and refill sherry casks, giving it a lovely, rich and complex set of flavours and aromas. A fantastic whisky that delivers everything you would expect, and much more. Scored 95.5 out of 100 in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2013.
Benromach 30 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes
Nose: Lots of tropical and soft fruit – peach, mango and green melon especially – with wax, chapstick, a hint of liquorice and some old wood.
Palate: Soft and fruity, with the peaches from the nose joined by sweet apples and a touch of perfectly ripe banana. The liquorice from the nose also comes through along with some sugar syrup, and perfumed wood that slowly gets more sour as it sits in the glass.
Finish: Good Old Wood (capital letters very much intentional), sour apples and a light touch of woody liquorice root.
Distillery Information
Benromach is a Speyside distillery founded by Duncan McCallum and F.W. Brickman in 1898 and currently owned and run by Gordon and Macphail of Elgin. It is situated near Forres in Morayshire and is fed with spring water from the Chapelton Springs in the Romach Hills beside
