Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Tasted at the pre-dinner vertical to mark Sylvain Pitiot's retirement from the domaine, the 2000 Clos de Tart Grand Cru has a slightly shallow bouquet compared to other vintages of similar age. What it lacks in intensity it compensates in terms of brightness and precision. This is a joyous nose that doesn't really care too much about any deficiencies. The palate is medium-bodied and is actually superior to the nose with pleasant, fleshy red fruit; it is spicy and peppery in the mouth, linear and long. This is far more satisfying than I presupposed - the kind of grand cru you yearn to drink and not intellectualize over.
- Decanter: Glowing, resonant, rounded aromas and flavours, with fruit and texture perfectly synthesized. This is ripe enough for there to be a little meaty warmth beginning to show, yet it also has a spring-like sappy energy inscribed within it; the result of this tension is pure deliciousness. This would be the Clos de Tart I’d chose to drink at present if I was indeed the Duke of Burgundy.
Producer Information
Clos de Tart is a highly esteemed domaine based on a single grand cru monopole vineyard in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis, in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or. The estate produces two wines, both from Pinot Noir.Clos de Tart's history dates back to a 12th Century abbey constructed by Cistercian nuns of the Notre Dame de Tart order. The vineyard has remained a monopole ever since. In 2017 the domaine was bought by French billionaire François Pinault for a figure thought to be in excess of €225 million ($260 million). Pinault's investment group, Artemis, owns a host of high-profile domaines across France, including Château Grillet in Château Grillet (Condrieu) and Château Latour in Pauillac, Bordeaux, as well as Araujo Estate in California's Napa Valley.
