Detailed Description
Detailed Description
Because the vintage is emblematic and because the terroir is exceptional, the Domaine de Chevalier surpassed itself in the year 2000. Its usual earliness helped it well during the harvest, but also the particular care given to monitoring the harvest, in particular in white where the very limited surface allows all the requirements. Golden, still buttery from its active fermentation, with touches of cocoa butter, it reveals itself to be wonderfully balanced, dense, with a delicate freshness. A bottle to combine with the present and the future.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: One of the best dry whites of the vintage, the 2000 offers up notes of lanolin, citrus, grapefruit, smoke, and minerals with notions of toasty wood in the background. This medium to full-bodied, deep, concentrated, pure, intense effort is a success for the vintage.
- Wine Spectator: This is a blockbuster. It's full of superripe apple, lemon and fresh peach character. Yet very reserved. Full-bodied, with super structure and a long, long finish. Like grand cru Burgundy. Fantastic.
Producer Information
Domaine de Chevalier is located in a clearing in the middle of a forest that protects the vines from extremes of temprature. In fact Chevalier is a sort of secret garden, far from the limelight. This is something of a paradox for such an excellent wine, among the greatest in Bordeaux.Only a great terroir can produce a great wine... I often start out with these words when speaking about Domaine de Chevalier. They convey our fundamental philosophy, not only with regard to viticulture, but also the spirit that pervades the estate and the men and women who work here. They improve their already considerable skills year after year on behalf of that which is most essential to a fine wine; in my opinion balance.
