Red Wine: 2011 | Armand Rousseau | Chambertin Clos de Beze slightly damaged label
Good dark red. Expressive aromas of blueberry, woodsmoke, earth and game, plus an ineffable floral complexity. Moderately sweet and very intense, with purple fruit and spice flavors conveying an impression of energy. Tight, serious wine with outstanding breadth and a firm tannic spine to support a slow and graceful evolution in bottle. Order from the Largest & Most Trusted Premium Spirits Marketplace!

Detailed Description
Good dark red. Expressive aromas of blueberry, woodsmoke, earth and game, plus an ineffable floral complexity. Moderately sweet and very intense, with purple fruit and spice flavors conveying an impression of energy. Tight, serious wine with outstanding breadth and a firm tannic spine to support a slow and graceful evolution in bottle. Leaves behind intense black- and blueberry flavors on the building aftertaste. In November, Rousseau told me he preferred 2011 to 2012 but noted that the '12s demonstrated their terroir character more accurately.
Reviews:
- Burghound: A potently expressive nose blends both wood and natural spice together with distinctly cool, pure and ripe wild red berries, earth and underbrush. The palate impression is a gorgeous combination of power and refinement along with flat out superb complexity on the explosively long, focused and beautifully well-balanced finish. The supporting structure is dense but fine and this should prove to be a moderately long-lived example.
- Wine Advocate: The Chambertin Clos de Bèze 2011 from Rousseau was showing too much wood when I tasted it just after bottling. Whereas some 2011s from Rousseau seem to have been handicapped by that, others like this have shrugged it off. Here, it has a more generous bouquet compared to its peers, armed with lush red cherries, strawberry and cassis. The oak vanillin is noticeable but synced with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a plush texture. There is very good depth here and arresting purity – red cherries strawberry and candied orange peel that segue into a citrus fresh and vibrant finish with plenty of energy and race. Superb.
Producer Information
Domaine Armand Rousseau is a highly regarded and critically lauded wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the northern Côte de Nuits. Arguably iconic in status, Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's oldest and most revered family-run domains. It holds many grand cru plots in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as part of the much sought-after premier cru vineyard Clos Saint-Jacques.Founded at the start of the 20th Century by Gevrey native Armand Rousseau, the domaine initially owned small plots of vines throughout Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the next 100 years under both Armand Rousseau and his son Charles, who took over after the death of his father in 1959, the Domaine acquired various grand cru vineyards in Charmes-, Mazis- (labeled "Mazy" by the domaine) and Mazoyères-Chambertin, culminating in a plot in Le Chambertin itself in 1994.Today, the winery and vineyard are run by Charles' son Eric and Eric's daughter Cyrielle Rousseau.
