The chimney, funk, earth, mineral, fresh tobacco, peat and spice aromas draw you into the glass. The fruit and savory notes are elegant but flavorful, with a long finish capping it off. The balance is impressive.

• Wine Advocate: With only three acres dedicated to Tempranillo, the 2016 Impulsivo comes from the En Chamberlin vineyard. The nose is scented of red fruits—spiced red plums and dark cherries—with an oaky and mineral core. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and precise, with balanced tannic structure and ripe, juicy richness across the mid-palate, finishing long. This wine will age well, as it shows power and a soft, silky elegance on the finish.
  

• Vinous: Good full red. Musky aromas of raspberry, cherry, redcurrant and mocha complicated by a hint of meat and some oak spices. Darker and smokier than the Tempranillo that Elizabeth Bourcier makes under the No Girls label, with robust dark fruit, meat and mocha flavors calling out for food. "An asado wine," says Bourcier. I think of this as Ribera del Duero-like in style, vs. the No Girls' Rioja. A bit less fun in the early going--as well as more tannic--than the No Girls example but still quite juicy and light on its feet.

The Wagner family were farmers with deep roots in the Napa Valley – in 1857, Chuck Wagner’s great-great grandfather captained a wagon train to California from Bible Grove, Missouri. Working together for decades, Chuck Wagner and his parents established the family’s work ethic, appetite for innovation, down-to-earth sensibility, and deep appreciation of the pleasures of good food and wine enjoyed with family and friends.Today, Caymus Cabernet is one of Napa Valley’s most celebrated wines. Made from grapes farmed in 8 of Napa Valley’s 16 appellations, the wine has a signature style that is dark in color, with rich fruit and ripe tannins – as approachable in youth as it is in maturity. Chuck Wagner continues to make two world-renowned Cabernet Sauvignons – Caymus Napa Valley and Caymus Special Selection. Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon is the only wine in the world to be honored twice as Wine Spectator magazine’s “Wine of the Year” for the 1984 and 1990 vintages.
