      Detailed Description

Situated in Gevrey-Chambertin, Armand Rousseau is a well-established producer, known for its elegant and age-worthy wines. This is the domaine’s 2017 Les Cazetiers, a premier cru vineyard that lies just over the wall from the Clos Saint-Jacques. A pure and full-bodied expression, combining notes of red cherries, berries, peony, blood orange and a touch of cedarwood. The wine is approachable now but will develop more complexity over time.

        Reviews:

        • Vinous: The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru is a step up from the Lavaux Saint-Jacques: more intensity, more red fruit, perhaps even more panache. According to Cyrielle Rousseau this had just started to open up the week of my visit. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannin, quite plush red fruit, rounded and sensual with a very precise finish that fans out with aeration. This might be the most seductive 2017 from Rousseau this year.
        • Burghound: A discreet veneer of wood sets off the cool and ultra-pure essence of very fresh red cherry, raspberry and sauvage-inflected aromas. There is once again excellent intensity and verve to the more muscular and powerful broad-shouldered flavors that culminate in a robust, serious and built-to-age finish. The Lavaut is finer but this is more imposing and while the two are qualitative equals, at least today, they offer two quite different expressions.

Domaine Armand Rousseau is a highly regarded and critically lauded wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the northern Côte de Nuits. Arguably iconic in status, Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's oldest and most revered family-run domains. It holds many grand cru plots in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as part of the much sought-after premier cru vineyard Clos Saint-Jacques.Founded at the start of the 20th Century by Gevrey native Armand Rousseau, the domaine initially owned small plots of vines throughout Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the next 100 years under both Armand Rousseau and his son Charles, who took over after the death of his father in 1959, the Domaine acquired various grand cru vineyards in Charmes-, Mazis- (labeled "Mazy" by the domaine) and Mazoyères-Chambertin, culminating in a plot in Le Chambertin itself in 1994.
