      Detailed Description

The palate is powerful and complex. A wine of great finesse and an impressive length in the mouth.

        Producer Information

Domaine Jean Fournier is a leading estate in the Marsannay appellation of Burgundy. The winery mainly makes wines from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté. The domaine has over 20 hectares of land with over 16 under vine. Since Laurent took over, it has been run according to organic methods producing smaller yields which are then manually harvested. Most of these sites enjoy different types of limestone soil. They are home to vines of varying different ages with some Pinot Noir vines between 50 and 70 years old. Within Marsannay there are estate vineyard plots in two noted lieux-dits; Clos du Roy and Longeroies. Wines are also made from plots in Fixin and others designated as Bourgogne, including a little Bourgogne Aligoté. Two of Domaine Jean Fournier's key wines are the P'Tite Grumotte and the Pur Pôt Cuvee Speciale, both were designed in celebration of the birth of Laurent’s two children. Production is limited to 600 bottles of each. Pinot Noir grapes for P'Tite Grumotte coming from parcels in Longeoies and Ouzeley. Fruit for Pur Pôt coming from the estate's oldest vines in Clos du Roy. The domaine was purchased by Jean Fournier in 1960 when Marsannay had yet to establish a solid reputation for wine. Even today, Marsannay is still best known for its production of rosé. The domaine is now run by Jean's son, Laurent Fournier.
