The 2019 vintage of G d'Estournel delivers vivacity and balance; it is at once fresh and rich, vigorous and discreet. Vibrant and highly spirited, with unmistakable notes of pepper, it is a long, silky wine, whose nose of blackcurrant and violet is highlighted by aromas of eucalyptus, thyme and rosemary.

• Wine Advocate: A blend of of 86% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc, aging in 20% new barriques, the 2019 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel (13.53% alcohol) has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and leaps from the glass with vivacious scents of ripe red and black plums, black cherries and mulberries with touches of spice cake, violets and star anise. Medium-bodied, the palate has bags of energetic black berry flavors with a rugged frame of chewy tannins and loads of freshness, finishing with an herbal lift.

• James Suckling: This is a rich and intense G with lots of dried berries and chocolate. Medium-to full-bodied with firm tannins that nicely frame the wine nicely. Drinkable now, but can age well.

Chateau Cos d'Estournel is a Grand Cru vineyard located in St. Estephe. Its oriental facade is adorned with three pagoda turrets, all cast in a soft golden sandstone. Chateau Cos d'Estournel today covers 170 acres separated from Chateau Lafite, along the southern edge, by the stream between St. Estephe and Pauillac. The gravelly soil, over a flint, limestone and silicate subsoil low in nitrogen, has eroded over centuries to form steep ridges which perfectly drain the vineyards. The vineyards are planted 60 percent in Cabernet Sauvignon vines, 2 percent of Cabernet Franc, and 38 percent in Merlot. Naturally, the percentage of Cabernet or Merlot in the composition of each vintage depends on the climate which favors one grape variety or the other.
