Dreaming Tree Wines is a collaboration between winemaker Sean McKenzie and South African-American musician Dave Matthews. Based in Geyersville, Dreaming Tree produce a small collection of wines, all with the state-level Californian AVA (American Viticultural Area) label. The company was named after "The Dreaming Tree", a track from Dave Matthew's Band's 1998 album "Before These Crowded Streets". The inaugural vintage from the label was released in 2011, consisting of a varietal Chardonnay and a Cabernet Sauvignon. Also included in this release was the Crush red-blend of Merlot and Zinfandel, produced in a fruity-style and bottled with residual sugar. Grapes are sourced from multiple sub-regions of California's wine country. The brand was designed to be approachable with affordable, high-quality wines that are suited to a broad range of consumers. The brand has since expanded to include Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Dreaming Tree Wines is owned by the conglomerate Constellation Brands that also include Kim Crawford and Robert Mondavi within the portfolio.
