Diplomatico Single Vintage 2005 Rum

After a record breaking sugarcane harvest in the year 2004 in Venezuela, this rum seemed destined for greatness. Indeed, this particular batch was treated rather well, being aged in the best single malt and bourbon casks the distillers could find for 12 years and finished in Spanish Sherry casks. The result is a spectacular and sought after vintage rum from Diplomatico.

Diplomatico Single Vintage 2005 Rum Tasting Notes

Nose: Classic Diplomatico to start, with vanilla and milk chocolate caramels backed up by cinnamon spice and brown sugar sweetness. It develops through creamy chocolate truffles and salted almonds to dried apricot, raisins and earthy leather.

Palate: Golden syrup and dried fruit lead the palate, with vanilla ice cream and oaky flavours - cinnamon, green leaves and tree bark. Rum 'n raisin fudge as well as real raisins, apricots, dates and richly pungent honey round things out, producing a very easy drinking rum.

Finish: Long, lingering and warming, with cloves, leather, black liquorice sticks and polished oak joined by vanilla pod sweetness and rich earthiness.

Named Diplomático in honor of the statesman who brought order and balance to a restless era in Venezuela during the 19th century, these rums are the exquisite product of Venezuela's warm, tropical climate. The sunny days, cool nights, constant breeze and abundant rainfall create an idyllic environment for growing and cultivating juicy, fresh sugarcane. The sugarcane is harvested, fermented and distilled into rum, before being aged in a range of bourbon, port and sherry casks. They are then masterfully blending by the hands of Tito Cordero, Diplomático’s maestro ronero.
