Detailed Description
Detailed Description
A very young and very affordable introduction to Miltonduff is on offer from Douglas Laing as part of their 'Provenance' collection. The added appeal here is that the whisky is single cask and non-chill filtered. Distilled in 2009 with an outturn of 399 bottles from one refill (Bourbon?) hogshead, this seven year old was bottled in 2016 at 46%. We tasted a nine year old from the same stable and found it to be a deliciously fruity, tangy malt with sponge cake and lemon lozenge-like flavours. Expect more of the same here, only with added spice and vibrancy.
2009 Douglas Laing & Co. Provenance Miltonduff 7 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Rye bread with marmalade, golden syrup and a hint of turmeric.
Palate: Creamy. Honey'd malt, with a vanilla-y/grass-y hint of grist.
Finish: Clove spiciness and more layers of honey.
Distillery Information
The Miltonduff distillery lies in the Glen of Pluscarden, whose barley rich pastures once played host to as many as fifty illicit stills during the 1800s. The site was once the meal mill of Pluscarden Abbey. The Benedictine Priory of Pluscarden was founded in 1236 and had been closed for some time, until 1948 when it was reopened. The Miltonduff whisky distillery was founded by Robert Bain and Andrew Peary in 1824, shortly after the Excise Act was passed.
