Signifies many things: — for Robert and MeiLi, the owners, and for Robert’s birth sign Aries. — for Robert A. Hefner III, and when MeiLi’s brushstroke is added below, it signifies mountain in Chinese 山 for Ramiiisol’s location in the Piedmont of Virginia’s Blue Ridge. — Latin for sun, the source of all life… So, Robert and MeiLi, the mountains and the sun. To fulfill Thomas Jefferson’s dream to produce world class, natural*, authentic Virginia wines. “We could in the United States make as great a variety of wines as are made in Europe, not exactly of the same kinds, but doubtless as good.” – Thomas Jefferson Our vision is to work with the complexities of nature for the creation of a “Ramiiisol Territorium” that is a holistic, biodiverse, balanced and sustainable ecosystem encompassing our entire 140-acre property and its surrounds. For our wines, our vision is to grow natural*, alive and joyously pleasurable wines that express the layered nuances of our complex environment and ancient granitic soils that give typicity and character to each Ramiiisol vintage. We hope they will give pleasure, delight and camaraderie adding credence to Louis Pasteur’s insight, “There is more philosophy in each bottle of wine than all the books in the world.” *Because the word “natural” can be as complex as nature itself, we decided it best to define what we mean by natural at Ramiiisol. Natural means we practice sustainable biodynamic farming methods that we believe enhance and nurture our organic biome, indigenous microbiology, flora, fauna and soils within which we live and grow our vines. In our winery we follow biodynamic and organic viniculture methods allowing our indigenous microorganisms to stimulate spontaneous fermentations. We use minimal sulfites to help healthy growth of our native yeasts and bacteria so that our wines best represent our “Territorium” and the character of each vintage year.
