      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga is a wine of increased depth and power. The bouquet is redolent of dark fruit, dried cherry, grilled herbs and moist clay that has been wetted by rain drops. The wine shows power and determination on the close that gives it momentum and persistence. This wine shows good possibility for further evolution in the bottle over the next five years or more.
      • James Suckling: What a delicious nose that’s ripe, but also really well defined with dried red plums, hazelnuts, Indian spices, baking spices, cedar, tar and licorice. The dusty tannins are a delight, and so are the dried fruit and spices that warm the palate. They also penetrate all the way through to the long, charcoal-laden finish.

      Producer Information

Fèlsina is a leading wine estate in Chianti Classico, founded in 1966. It is situated at the southeast edge of the Classico appellation. It was once one of many estates owned by the Dukes of Tuscany, and was farmed mainly by sharecroppers growing olives until World War II. The estate produces a wide range of wines, including multiple Chianti Classicos (including Riservas and Gran Selezione), IGT Toscana wines, Vin Santo and sparkling wines. That being said, the estate is best known for its supple, aromatic Super Tuscan wine Fontallaro, and the spicy, intense Rancia Chianti Classico Riserva, both made from Tuscany's most important variety, Sangiovese. Grapes for Fontallaro are sourced from vineyards straddling the Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi appellations, and the wine receives around up to 22 months in French oak, some of which is new. 95 of the estate's 600 hectares (235 of 1480 acres) are planted to vines, generally on rocky, chalky soil with layers of mineral-rich marine sediments. The vineyard has been extended and replanted largely using massal selection – taking cuttings from numerous top-performing plants rather than planting clones of a single vine.
