      Detailed Description

The 2018 Bell Hill Pinot Noir shows a deep concentration of fruit, elegance and energy with a seamless tannin structure giving long length of flavour.

        Producer Information

Bell Hill Vineyard is a North Canterbury wine producer on the South Island of New Zealand. It produces a small collection of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines sourced from its two hectare estate vineyard. Bell Hill is named after the geographical aspect of the area; upon approaching the Waikari Valley from the south, the undulating landscape forms a bell-like shape. Here, limestone-rich soils form a core component of the winemaking terroir. The Bell Hill Vineyard is located on an old lime quarry where the incredibly chalky soil impart a distinct minerality into the wines. The first vines of the estate were planted in 1997 with further plots planted in subsequent years. Rootstock was a particularly important decision with vines susceptible to chlorosis from the limestone-based soils. Although vines are densely-planted, mechanical cultivation is apart of the vineyard management. The inaugural vintage from Bell Hill was released in 2003 under the Old Weka Pass Road label. Today, the Bell Hill duo of varietal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is the flagship core range with the Old Weka Pass released as the entry-level range. French oak is employed in the winery for barrel-aging with wines bottle-aged for five years prior to release.
