The roots of the Giannò family are in Sicily, but my great grandparents moved to Libya in 1911, pursuing their dream of a new land. ​ After King Idris' government in Libya was overthrown in a coup d'état in 1969, all Italian properties were confiscated, among them my family's farmlands in Tajoura, on the outskirts of Tripoli. ​ In order to establish a new and lasting home that would hold our family together following years of hardship, my grandparents bought an Azienda Agricola in Umbria in 1972. My 11 cousins, my sister and I spent most of our summers there, and grew deeply attached to the grounds. ​ We founded Azienda Agricola Poggio Petroso on this land and on my grandparents' values: family, tradition, and our love for the home that unites us.
