Producer Information
Domaine Chatelain has roots beginning in 1630. Since then, the family works the soil of Pouilly sur Loire day after day. 300 years later, André Chatelain offered his wine abroad and built the foundation of our international reputation. The 12th generation now runs the Chatelain area of 30 hectares of vines, in Pouilly Fumé AOC, spread over 6 towns of the 7 in the designation including: Tracy-sur-Loire - Pouilly-sur-Loire - Mesves-sur-Loire - Saint-Andelain - Saint-Laurent l'Abbaye - Saint-Martin-sur-Nohain. Limestone sedimentary deposits formed of a large quantity of white pebbles (clots) in a soil containing more or less clay. These are draining soils and rapid warming, generally allowing an early maturity of the grapes. These soils are often dry and poor, requiring daily work of their structure. It is composed of clay white, brown, and flint stones in its mass, covering the limestone plateaus of the buttes of Saint-Andelain, Saint-Laurent l'Abbaye and Tracy-sur-Loire. A soil that is difficult to exploit because of its structure, it produces structured, firm wines with a highly developed mineral flavor. Covering the greater part of the vineyard pouillysois, clay-limestone, and sometimes limestone and fossil pebbles, depending on the situation. These are generally longer soils to warm in the spring and require regular decomposition. It provides fruity wines with good length in the mouth.
