      Detailed Description

Rich and generous on the palate, this is a full-bodied, very intense, dense and elegant, aromatic yet also refined and mineral Chardonnay that reveals intense and hedonistic yellow fruit such as melons and tropical fruit. The wine has very fine tannins and a generous, textural, saline, very long and savory finish.

      Distillery Information

Gantenbein Wine is situated on the outskirts of the predominantly wine-growing village of Fläsch in Graubunden, Switzerland. The winery has stood here since Martha and Daniel Gantenbein took over the running of the estate from Martha’s family in 1981. The winery began producing local wine the following year and today the vineyards are planted with five hectares (12 acres) of Pinot Noir, one hectare (2.5 acres) of Chardonnay and 0.2 hectares (0.5 acres) of Riesling. Since establishing the winery in 1982, the Gantenbeins have strived to improve their winemaking processes and in 1991, for example, began experimenting with German oak barrels. The experiment paid off and the wine was well received both nationally and internationally. The next idea was to ferment a portion of the grape harvest in barriques – a process that has now been continually implemented since 1993. Two years on from this, and in another departure from their contemporaries, the Gantenbeins decided to produce wine without filtration.
