One of a handful of East Highland distilleries that carries a very particular malt-led character, ‘Fettercairn’ Distillery is situated in the town that shares its name, which in local dialect means ‘foot of the mountain’.

Nose: Very elegant and precise aromas.

Palate: The palate is very powerful and complex. Smooth texture.

Finish: Finish is very smooth and long.

Distillery Information

The distillery was founded in 1824, one year after the Act of Exercise of 1823. The new law allowed distillation, provided that the distillers paid a small flat fee as well as alcohol taxes. Fettercairn was thus the second distillery with official distilling license, under the ownership of Sir Alexander Ramsay.
