Nose: Tremendous sweetness - pronounced aromas of rum and raisin fudge. Also fruity - apricots and peaches - and nutty, with a definite almond praline presence.

Palate: Brown sugar, brandy snaps, pecan pie and vanilla. Toasted bread. A tangy, fruitiness is evident, with cranberries and red plums. Sweet spicy notes of cinnamon, ginger, and allspice. Overall a rich, viscous, dessert-style dram, with an underlying spiciness.

Finish: The finish is quite unique, rich and long lasting.

Distillery Information

Balmenach Distillery is one of the earliest distilleries sanctioned as a result of the Excise Act 1823. In 1897 the distillery was purchased by Glenlivet and was served by its own railway branch off the Strathspey Railway until 1969.
