Detailed Description

The Story of Bunnahabhain 46 Year Old, Eich Bhana Lìr (meaning “The great waves of the God Lìr”) is the oldest single malt ever released from Bunnahabhain Distillery. During the winter months, the distillery warehouses, situated close to the sea on the rugged north‐eastern coast of Islay, are often enveloped by the raging seas. As in Gaelic mythology, where the God Lìr, the powerful ruler of the sea, used his great white waves to wash ashore his most precious gifts, so Bunnahabhain 46YO Eich Bhana Lir is a majestic and treasured elixir indeed.

Bunnahabhain 40 Year Old Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: Aromatic, elegant, complex. Old leather and beeswax with candied orange peel and manuka honey, seductive.

Palate: Rich and silky, a refined balance of maltiness, citrus, heather honey, roasted nuts and a gingery spiciness.

Finish: Satisfying, very long and spicy.

Distillery Information

The Bunnahabhain distillery lies on the peaceful, sheltered north-eastern coast of Islay, the most southerly of the Hebridean Islands. Built in 1881 its name comes from the Gaelic, Bunnahabhain (Bu-na-ha-venn), meaning ‘mouth of the river’, a reference to the Margadale, the river from whose clear spring waters the whisky is distilled.
