Detailed Description
Detailed Description
This single grain from Cambus spent three decades maturing between 1988 and 2018. Cambus closed for good in 1993, and these days, it's not all that common to find bottlings from the revered grain distillery. You've found one here though, part of our own single cask collection, with a release of just 22 bottles.
Cambus 30 Year Old 1988 Single Cask (Private Label) | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Sticky sweet s'mores and buttery, crumbly fudge. Layers of orchard fruit and stewed hedgerow berries follow, joined by roasted nuts and honeyed marzipan.
Palate: Crunchy almond butter and crisp green apple are joined by juicy fruit salad, drizzled with runny honey. A touch of herbaceous lemon balm arrives in time, complimenting candied ginger warmth.
Finish: A solid core of drying oak and forest fruits remains, backed up by toasted cinnamon.
Distillery Information
The Cambus distillery dates back to the early 1800s - it was opened in 1836 in a village that shares its name near Alloa. Here it quietly produced its whiskies, becoming one of the first members of the Distillers Company Ltd. In 1913, a fire destroyed much of the distillery, forcing it to close until 1938. Cambus produced grain whisky, a lot of which made its way into blends, though you can still find independent bottlings of their single grain if you’re lucky (it’s fantastic stuff). The distillery was closed in 1993 by its owner, UDV.
