Compass Box The Peat Monster 10th Anniversary Limited Release Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

The 2013 release of Peat Monster commemorates the 10th anniversary of Compass Box's creation of "Monster" for the Park Avenue Liquor Ship in New York. This is a blend of Islay malts, both from the south of the island and from the village of Port Askaig combined with Clynelish from the Highlands. It is matured in a mixture of American Oak and 2% new French oak for finishing purposes.

Nose: Surprisingly enough, there's an intense peaty aroma and scorched seaside earth but added fruity notes of apples make it very inviting.

Palate: Compass Box have found a good balance between coastal peat and softer maltiness. Water brings out some hidden vanilla.

Finish: Long, balanced and peaty. Quite dreamy!
