Pierre Ferrand Ambre Cognac

Pierre Ferrand doesn't classify their cognacs with the standard VS, VSOP, XO, etc. classifications. Using their own labeling, Ambre, their youngest standard expression, is an average of 10 years. Ferrand uses mostly ugni blanc grapes with a small portion of colombard grapes used and all were sourced from the Grande Champagne area.

Pierre Ferrand Ambre Cognac Tasting Notes

Nose: A fair amount of apricot and pear aromas with some orange peel thrown in for good measure. Mild woody notes appear with just a dash of savory spices and black tea.

Palate: On the palate with the fruit notes but there's a waxy component as well.

Finish: The finish is more bittersweet and finishes with a slight almond note.

Distillery Information

The estate of Pierre Ferrand Cognac is located in the golden triangle of the Grande Champagne cru— Angeac-Champagnes. The current owner and director, Alexandre Gabriel, had a spontaneous renaissance in 1989 when he met up with one of the oldest Winemaking families of Cognac, from which Pierre Ferrand was born.
