"Created in 1860 by Giuseppe Alberti in Benevento, Italy (the "City of Witches"), Strega ("witch" in Italian) liqueur is linked to ancient local tales of witches gathering under a walnut tree to brew love potions, promising eternal love to couples who drank it. Alberti perfected a recipe, adding saffron for its distinct color, and built the distillery near the train station to sell it as a magical elixir, growing into a cultural icon, even inspiring Italy's prestigious Premio Strega literary prize."
