      Detailed Description

It presents itself with great elegance and charm with precise aromas, imposing but very fine tannins and great length.

        Producer Information

Clos Naudin (also known as Domaine du Clos Naudin) is a well-regarded wine producer in the Loire Valley, popularly considered one of the preeminent Vouvray domaines. The estate strictly grows Chenin Blanc, producing roughly equal amounts of both sparkling (méthode traditionnelle-style, Vouvray Petillant), and still Vouvray. Clos Naudin is also known for its high-quality limited-production cuvées made only in the best vintages. The estate is run by third-generation winemaker Philippe Foreau, whose grandfather founded Clos Naudin in 1923. The domaine now farms roughly 12 hectares (30 acres) of vines in the northeast of the Vouvray appellation, planted entirely to Chenin Blanc. The vineyards all benefit from a predominantly southern exposure. They are divided into two broad lieux-dits: les Perruches and les Ruettes. Naudin is best known for its five cuvées; a sparkling wine, and still wines at the various levels of sweetness associated with the region: sec, demi-sec, moelleux and moelleux reserve. The estate has also produced very limited production cuvées in only the best years, including a vintage dated reserve sparkling Vouvray, and the very rare Goutte d'Or Vouvray Moelleux. Foreau farms all the vineyards using organic practices. The fruit is all hand-harvested and requires numerous passes – a necessity for selecting bunches with appropriate sugar levels for the various styles of wines. The demi-sec and moelleux wines are only made in vintages that naturally support the required degrees of ripeness. Chaptalization is never used and none of the wines go through a malolactic fermentation.
