White Wine: 2002 | Domaine Yves Boyer-Martenot | Puligny-Montrachet Le Cailleret

This wine has floral, honeysuckle aromas. Tight and mineral on the palate too, but plenty of fruit in there and a very composed, seamless, lithe quality of concentrated fruit and integrated acids.

      Detailed Description

This wine has floral, honeysuckle aromas. Tight and mineral on the palate too, but plenty of fruit in there and a very composed, seamless, lithe quality of concentrated fruit and integrated acids.

        Reviews:

        • Stephen Tanzer: Leesy, gingery, stony nose. Juicy and intensely flavored but tightly wound and uncompromisingly dry. Offers brisk, scented flavors of orange oil and lemon, along with some toasty oak. Boyer uses 50% new barrels here, a bit more than he employs for his Meursault crus. A taste of pain grille (which Boyer says is probably from a single heavily toasted barrel) somewhat masks the wine's underlying minerality. I get the sense that there's even less volatile acidity here to carry the wine's aromas than in most of Boyer's Meursaults.
        • Tom Cannavan: Again very poised, restrained and elegant in style, with a powerful yet oddly quite reticent nose at this stage: seems to have obvious concentration, but it only slowly reveals a little more floral, honeysuckle aroma. Tight and mineral on the palate too, but plenty of fruit in there and a very composed, seamless, lithe quality of concentrated fruit and integrated acids. This is all about reserves of power within a taut, reserved framework, and should be a great wine for the long haul. This vineyard adjoins the Grand Cru Le Montrachet.

        Producer Information

After the Second World War, André Boyer took over the family estate run alone by his mother Lucie. In 1945 he married Juliette Devèze, a native of Puligny Montrachet, in 1976 their son Yves perpetuated the family tradition and married Marie Cécile Martenot, daughter of winegrower Murisaltien. Today their son Vincent devotes himself entirely to the estate. The estate currently includes ten hectares of vines located in the communes of Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Auxey Duresses and Pommard. Between 1997 and 2007 several plots were acquired in the Meursault "les Tillets" appellation, Meursault 1er cru "les Perrieres" and in Puligny Montrachet 1er cru "le Cailleret". The quality of the wine is achieved above all in the vineyard it is essential to produce high quality grapes to obtain a high quality wine, for this we practice traditional methods (tillage, control of yields, green harvesting, treatments reasoned) without claiming the organic label our approach is very close.
