Good full, deep red. Lovely tangy perfume of cherry, raspberry, red licorice, fresh herbs, rose petal and spicy oak. Dense, sweet and fine, with an obvious new oak element nicely carried by the wine's concentration of fruits and flowers. Offers an uncanny combination of seamless texture and power. Most impressive today on the firmly structured, slowly building finish, which features fine-grained tannins and a complex saline and spice perfume

• Wine Advocate: The 2009 Clos St. Jacques is a rich, deeply pitched wine built on a serious core of dark red fruit, menthol, spices and licorice. Readers won’t find much of the early appeal of 2009 here, rather this is a wine built for the cellar. Layers of flavor build to a huge finish supported by considerable tannin. This intense, powerful wine is going to require quite a bit of patience.

• Burghound: Discreet but not invisible wood spice adds breadth to the otherwise perfumed, elegant and ultra-pure stone-infused red berry fruit nose that is also quite fresh within the context of the vintage. The detailed and strikingly intense medium-bodied flavors exude dry extract that effectively pushes the firm tannic spine to the background on the palate staining and massively long finish. This powerful effort is a potentially a great Clos St. Jacques that rivals its 2005 counterpart at the same stage of its development.

Domaine Armand Rousseau is a highly regarded and critically lauded wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the northern Côte de Nuits. Arguably iconic in status, Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's oldest and most revered family-run domains. It holds many grand cru plots in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as part of the much sought-after premier cru vineyard Clos Saint-Jacques.Founded at the start of the 20th Century by Gevrey native Armand Rousseau, the domaine initially owned small plots of vines throughout Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the next 100 years under both Armand Rousseau and his son Charles, who took over after the death of his father in 1959, the Domaine acquired various grand cru vineyards in Charmes-, Mazis- (labeled "Mazy" by the domaine) and Mazoyères-Chambertin, culminating in a plot in Le Chambertin itself in 1994.
