        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Cardinale’s 2012 Proprietary Red, the flagship wine from the Jackson Family, was looked after and put-together by winemaker Chris Carpenter from numerous vineyard sites traversing Napa Valley. The 2012's final blend was 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Merlot with 94% new French oak used. Terroirists undoubtedly lament the fact that nine different vineyards and seven different appellations were utilized, but the resulting wine is prodigious. A dense purple color is accompanied by notes of graphite, blackberries, blackcurrants, roasted coffee, vanillin, baking spices and forest floor. With enormous complexity and richness as well as full-bodied power and voluptuousness, it is a wine of exceptional purity, intensity, and well-integrated acidity, alcohol, tannin and wood.
        • James Suckling: Figs and dried fruits with some tar predominate in the nose of this red wine. This has polished tannins, good bright fruit and a medium finish.

        Producer Information

Cardinale Estate is a premium-wine producer located in the Oakville sub-region of Napa Valley. The estate is most famous for its proprietary red wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot sourced from AVAs around the area, including from Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain. The Cardinale blend is created from two key estate vineyards – Veeder Park vineyard in Mount Veeder and Keyes vineyard in Howell Mountain. The Veeder Park vineyard, on the southwestern edge of the Napa Valley, is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. Here, a 1800 feet (550 meter) altitude and gravelly loam soils create perfect terroir for viticulture. Depending on the vintage, it contributes approximate 30-percent of the final blend. The Keyes vineyard, in comparison, is located 1700 feet (520 meters) above sea level on the northeastern slopes of the Napa Valley. It covers 28 hectares (68 acres) and is planted on white and red volcanic rocky loam soils. Keyes vineyard is planted to both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that together contribute approximately 40-percent of the grapes used in the Cardinale blend.
