On the nose, the typical notes of raisined fruit and cherry flavors are dominant. Mild hints of vanilla and spice are present as well. Elegant and warm with a velvety mouthfeel. Incredibly long, persistent fi nish that lingers on the palate.

• Wine Advocate: A slightly more accessible wine from a terrific vintage, the Cesari 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico has lifted or volatile aromas of dried cherry skin and red apple. This wine is released with an ample 280,000 frost-coated bottles produced. The blend is 75% Corvina Veronese, 20% Rondinella and 5% of two unknown grapes called Rossignola and Negrara. There is some heaviness to the bouquet with baked fruit and dark spice.

• Wine Enthusiast: New leather, truffle, menthol and baked plum aromas slowly emerge on this inviting, full-bodied red. Smooth and savory, the velvety palate doles out fleshy black cherry, fig, tobacco and licorice alongside polished, enveloping tannin's.

Gerardo Cesari is a wine estate founded in 1936 in the Veneto region of Italy. It is known for its traditional DOC and varietal IGT wines from the region, and in the 1970s, Cesari Amarone was one of the first to reach all five continents. Since then, the winery has aimed to maintain a presence around the world. Owner and winemaker Franco Cesari, the son of founder Gerardo Cesari, oversees the estate.The estate accounts for around 100 hectares (247 acres) of land in Valpolicella and Lugana. This includes the Bosan, Il Bosco, Jèma and Cento Filari vineyards, which are all intended for top quality wine production.The Bosan vineyard in Valpolicella is planted 80 percent to Corvina and 20 percent to Rondinella, and makes up Gerardo Cesari's top wine, Amarone Bosan. The site covers ten hectares (25 acres) with vines trained to a Pergola Veronese system. The grapes for this wine are dried for four to five months and, after vinification, are aged in both barrel and then in bottle.
