      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: Aromas of blackberries, violets, candied peel and spices introduce the 2018 Moulin-à-Vent, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy wine with succulent acids, a generous core of fruit and fine, powdery tannins. This is a pure and generous, comparatively fruit-driven wine from the Château des Jacques.
      • Wine Spectator: Pureed black cherry and raspberry notes are backed by plush tannins and vivid acidity. Rich accents of anise and dried violet give depth through the finish. Drink now through 2026.

      Producer Information

Château des Jacques is a wine estate in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation of northern Beaujolais, producing red and white wines from Gamay and Chardonnay across numerous geographical denominations in the region. The château and estate has been owned by Maison Louis Jadot since 1996, and is widely recognized for its range of Beaujolais cru wines. Vineyard holdings cover 88 hectares (217 acres) of planted vines spread throughout various Beaujolais crus, including Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie and Chénas. Gamay is the most planted grape variety and makes up the majority of Château des Jacques' wine portfolio. These vines are planted in volcanic granite soils and at harvest, grapes are sorted and destemmed prior to maceration and fermentation. Louis Jadot was the first Burgundy house to purchase a major Beaujolais producer, and has brought many of its Burgundian winemaking techniques to the estate. In the winery, Gamay grapes undergo a long maceration and are fermented with indigenous yeasts, before being barrel matured for 10 months in the château's 17th Century cellar. The percentage of new oak used depends on the quality of the grapes. Château des Jacques' best parcels, including Grand Clos de Rochegrès, Clos du Grand Carquelin, Champ de Cour, La Roche and Clos des Thorins can receive up to 100 percent new oak for the aging process. Chardonnay is planted at the estate's Clos de Loyse vineyard. Two examples of this wine are made: one is vinified and matured in stainless steel; while the other is aged in French oak barrels. The wines' respective appellations (Bourogone and Beaujolais) correlate with the styles produced.
