45th Parallel Distillery New Richmond Rye Whiskey

New Richmond, Wisconsin is the hometown of 45th Parallel Distillery. All distilling, traditional aging techniques and bottling are conducted here. Their distillers know that it takes time and fine ingredients to create an exceptional spirit. Patiently handcrafted in small batches from grains harvested by local family farms makes New Richmond Rye worth the wait. It's made with rye and corn grown locally on a nearby family farm. After aging for at least 2 years in 53-gallon new American oak barrels, it's bottled at 92 proof (sometimes more, by a few tenths of a decimal).

45th Parallel Distillery New Richmond Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: A whiff of apple cinnamon, with a trace toffee aroma.

Palate: Gentle spice fills and coats the mouth, with a pleasant warmth that lingers after swallowing. Notes of flambeed banana give way to a soft, slightly spear-minty coolness. An aftertaste of a very dark honey comes through, but without any overt sweetness.

Finish: Off-dry and simple without being one-note.

Distillery Information

45th Parallel started in 2007. At that time, the number of craft distilleries in the U.S. was around 50, while today’s count is closer to 159 million bajiliion kazillion. The distillery is located in New Richmond, Wisconsin, near the Minnesota border. It is named for the town’s proximity to the 45th parallel, halfway between the equator and the North Pole. So far, distribution is limited to Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Minnesota.
