      Detailed Description

Impressive and charming nose with balanced and rich flavors. Great elegance and length on the finish.

        Producer Information

Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac is a 15-hectare (37-acre) wine estate based at the western end of the Saint-Emilion appellation. The estate produces a single eponymous wine, or Grand Vin and is owned by the major, Bordeaux-based, Dourthe négoce operation. Of the 15 hectares planted on the estate, 9.5 hectares (23 acres) are planted to Merlot with the remaining 5.5 hectares (14 acres) Cabernet Franc. These proportions are roughly reflected in the final blend although seasonal influences on the two varieties – and winemaking choices – will vary the final proportion. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted prior to fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The resulting wines are aged in oak barriques for between 12 and 14 months. Throughout this process, the wines are kept within their separate lots, from vineyard through fermentation and aging, until the wine is blended prior to bottling. Annual production is around 75,000 bottles. As indicated in the name, the current Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac property was once part of the considerable Figeac estate. Over the centuries, the estate has broken down into smaller parts, as evidenced by the host of properties in the area bearing the name (Château La Tour Figeac, Château Yon-Figeac for instance, as well as the storied Château Figeac itself). The Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac estate was acquired by Dourthe 2005.
