Full medium-deep ruby. Knockout nose of currant, roasted stone, tobacco, leather and smoked meat, all lifted by sexy oak tones. Lush, sweet and extremely concentrated, with the trademark seamlessness shown by Turley's wines of all varietal persuasions. Strongly minerally, with a complicating note of dried herbs. A horizontal wine that spreads out impressively on the palate; tannins are broad and sweet. Tasting these three vintages from youngest to oldest offered a fascinating illustration of how masterful elevage enables a wine from an outstanding site to grow in dimension and complexity.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: The flagship wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, comes from a magnificent hillside vineyard overlooking Lake Hennessey (13 acres) and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine has an incredible track record, with some legendary efforts such as the 1995, 1997, and most recent vintages since 2005, as well as the 2013 all beauties. The classic purity of blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as white flowers and subtle background oak is followed by a full-bodied, voluptuously textured, multi-layered wine that is stunningly lush, with sweet, sweet tannin and beautiful purity and length. This excellent wine can be drunk early on or cellared for another 25 or more years.
        • James Suckling: The purity of fruit here is terrific with licorice, black currant and oyster shell. Blackberry too. Full body. The finish is overwhelming with such great intensity and grip. High-tensioned austerity. Energetic and intense.

        Producer Information

Donald L. Bryant, Jr., is driven by the pursuit excellence and realizing the full potential of his extraordinary Pritchard Hill estate. Investing in his passion for wine, the St. Louis businessman acquired the 13-acre vineyard overlooking Lake Hennessey in the late 1980s and replanted it with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon using modern viticulture practices. The first vintage was released in 1992, and soon after Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon won critical acclaim and became internationally recognized as a world-class wine. Don Bryant’s goal is to celebrate the first-growth vineyard terroir while paying homage to the great winemaking traditions of Bordeaux.
