Red Wine: 2001 | Viader Vineyards | Red Blend
Good full medium red; not particularly bright. Musky scents of currant, tobacco leaf, black olive tapenade, cedar and chocolate, plus a whiff of leather. Fine-grained and firm on entry, then quite lively in the middle palate, with berry, oak, olive and balsamic cedar flavors joined by burnished oak notes.

Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: a nose of bay leaf, black currants, cedar in a very perfumed, medium-bodied, quintessentially elegant style.
- Wine Spectator: Graceful and complex, with layers of spice, dried berry, mocha, roasted herb and tobacco, smooth on the finish, with ripe integrated tannins.
Producer Information
Viader Vineyards is a California wine producer located on Napa Valley's Howell Mountain. It was established in 1986 by Delia Viader, and today has become famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blended wine. The 92 acre (37 hectare) estate is located on a steep slope of Howell Mountain above the Napa Valley. Here, an altitude of 1200ft (365 meters) creates a diurnal temperature variation. Vines are planted in rows that extend down the mountainside according to Bordeaux methods, rather than across in terraces. The soils at the estate are thin, composed of volcanic remnants made up of rhyolite and tuffa rocks. Vines are hand-farmed and organically grown. Viader produces wines under three labels. The Viader label includes the estate's signature blend Liquid Cashmere, a Syrah, and the Black Label – a Bordeaux-style blend. "V" is the estate's Petit Verdot blend, and the "Dare" label is reserved for the estate's varietal wines, including Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon.
