A ripe, elegant and expressive nose combines earth notes with relatively deeply pitched red berry and bramble notes, the latter of which are picked up by the supple, delicious and naturally sweet medium-bodied flavors that are underpinned by light tannins and good acidity.

      Detailed Description

        Reviews:

        • Wine Enthusiast: Here's a dry, briskly crisp young Pinot Noir that offers plenty of pleasure now and should develop in the bottle. It's a big wine, dark and saturated in cherries, blackberries and red plums, with the prettiest vanilla and toast flavors from oak.
        • Vinous: Dark red, with a faint haze. Attractive, nuanced bouquet of black raspberry, cherry, dried flowers and black cardamom. Lightly chewy, with bitter cherry and dark berry skin flavors that stain the palate. Picks up exotic floral pastille and Asian spices with air and finishes with very good breadth and impressive persistence. I'd give this at least a couple more years in the cellar.

        Producer Information

Few of California’s young winemakers possess the regional mastery that is illustrated by the work of Justin Willett, of Tyler winery. A son of Santa Barbara, Justin began Tyler in 2005 with eight barrels tucked away in the corner of Arcadian Winery, where he honed his approach to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as assistant winemaker. Justin – a champion of old vines – has since engaged the famed historic vineyards of Santa Barbara, including the region-defining Sanford & Benedict, La Rinconada, and La Encantada Vineyards, in the Sta. Rita Hills. In 2017, Justin began planting a Sta. Rita Hills estate vineyard – a forty-five-acre property, with some twenty-six acres of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and named it Mae Estate.
