Good deep red. Captivating, vibrant aromas of raspberry, flowers, minerals and spicy oak; seems much more primary than the foregoing samples and it's hard to believe that this is just the new oak talking. Pretty, precise and energetic, yet at the same time displaying the creaminess of the vintage. Very pure raspberry, spice and mineral flavors linger impressively on the juicy, very long aftertaste.

• Burghound: Fresh and still youthful aromas are composed by notes of cool essence of red berries, earth, spice and a whiff of wood character. The round, supple and relatively forward middle weight flavors evidence plenty of minerality on the focused and sneaky long finish that tightens up noticeably as it sits on the palate. This well-made and utterly delicious effort isn't seductive but I like the delivery and balance and while it could certainly be enjoyed now, I would continue to hold it for up to another decade.

• Wine Spectator: Smooth, with concentration that makes this almost chewy framing the cherry, licorice and sandalwood notes. There's also a latent mineral tone. Though well-proportioned and harmonious, this needs a year or so to really sing

Domaine Armand Rousseau is a highly regarded and critically lauded wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the northern Côte de Nuits. Arguably iconic in status, Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's oldest and most revered family-run domains. It holds many grand cru plots in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as part of the much sought-after premier cru vineyard Clos Saint-Jacques.Founded at the start of the 20th Century by Gevrey native Armand Rousseau, the domaine initially owned small plots of vines throughout Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the next 100 years under both Armand Rousseau and his son Charles, who took over after the death of his father in 1959, the Domaine acquired various grand cru vineyards in Charmes-, Mazis- (labeled "Mazy" by the domaine) and Mazoyères-Chambertin, culminating in a plot in Le Chambertin itself in 1994.
