      Reviews:

      • Burghound: This really has not changed all that much from my original review save that the maturing nose of toasty, expressive and highly complex aromas feature notes of pain grillé, green fruit and dried rose petals is not quite as fresh as it once was even in the larger format. There is fine richness to the rich, full-bodied, well-muscled and impressively intense flavors that possess plenty of dry extract that really coats the mouth on the long and serious finish. Though hardly surprising in magnum format, this is not quite fully mature yet it's not so far away that it could not be enjoyed. I would suggest cellaring this for another 2 to 4 years and then it should be at or near its best. Tasted twice with consistent notes.
      • Wine Spectator: A toasty white, with a vivid structure and warm baking spices framing apple and grapefruit flavors. The racy structure is offset by a creamy texture, and this resonates on the lingering finish. Best from 2014 through 2024.

                    Producer Information

Louis Latour (also known as Domaine Louis Latour) is a major négociant and wine producer in Burgundy. A majority of the wine portfolio is produced from the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wine grape varieties. Established in 1797, the company today continues to be family owned and operated. The domaine has the largest grand cru vineyard holdings of any producer in Burgundy. With roughly 48 hectares (118 ac) of vineyards, the company has a wealth of holdings all over Burgundy, as well as in the south of France in the Ardèche and Var regions. The Latour family have grown grapes as far back as the 17th Century in Aloxe-Corton. They acquired a 125 acre (50 ha) domaine and the Corton Grancey winery was built in 1834. This was built over five levels in order to make wines via gravity flow, the first of its kind in France. While the majority of Louis Latour's vineyard holdings are in Aloxe-Corton (26-ac of these are in the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru vineyard), the company also makes wines in several other grand cru and premier cru vineyards, including Le Montrachet and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The large range of wines from Louis Latour are produced based on the terroir of each region and vineyard plot. Red wines are fermented in French oak vats before spending up to 12 months in barrel, while the Chardonnay ferments areconducted in stainless steel prior to oak ageing. In 1979, Louis Latour acquired holdings in the Ardèche river in south-central France to produce Viognier and Chardonnay at a more accessible price point. The same was done with Pinot Noir in the Var region of southeast France. Louis Latour is distributed to many countries across the world, and is one of the most easily recognized producers of Burgundy. In 1997, the company was admitted into the Hénokiens club which is exclusively for companies that remain family owned, have operated for over 200 years and still bear the name of the founder.
