Detailed Description
Detailed Description
This is easily the most complex wine in the range with its exuberantly spicy nose that exhibits notes of Asian tea, red and black currant, earth, floral hints and a hint of sandalwood. There is good power to the notably finer largerbodied flavors that display much more minerality on the impressively long and intense finale.
Reviews:
- Wine Spectator: Round and fleshy, with intense cherry, raspberry, wild berry, earth and spice flavors. Succulent and persistent, showing great balance and well-integrated tannins, delivering an aftertaste of cherry and spice.
- Allen Meadows: Not surprisingly this is completely different from any of the foregoing wines with its strikingly spicy aromas of fresh and pure wild red berries, warm earth, wet stone and a hint of humus. There is good richness and excellent intensity to the detailed and mineral-inflected medium weight plus flavors that possess good phenolic maturity and a firm core of ripe tannins on the strikingly long finish.
Producer Information
The property created in 1925 by Pierre GELIN has been operated by Stéphen GELIN since 1969 and his son Pierre-Emmanuel who takes over, the latter pays particular attention to the cultivation method, reasoned control is applied, the vines are plowed. The fertilizers used, if necessary, are natural (manure from organic farming). In order to obtain grapes of optimal quality and maturity, we carry out very selective disbudding, and (manual) leaf stripping is carried out. Concerned about respecting the environment, the estate collects rainwater for washing tractors and has installed a “phytobac” for the treatment of rinsing water from sulphating equipment. The vat room is also equipped with a screen and desilter, so no wine effluent is released into the public network. Winemaking is traditional while evolving with the aim of always improving quality, The wines are aged in oak barrels, with a percentage of new barrels varying depending on the Crus and vintages for a light woodiness, for 20 to 22 months. The wines are then bottled at the property and are only marketed after a year or two of storage in our cellars.
