      Producer Information

Château Bourgneuf (formerly known in some markets as Château Bourgneuf Vayron) is a wine estate in the Pomerol appellation of northeastern Bordeaux, boasting an array famous neighbors. Although it is often overshadowed by the latter, Bourgneuf nonetheless produces a critically well-received Merlot-based grand vin. The estate has been owned by the Vayron family since the 1840s. Current owners Xavier and Dominique Vayron took over in the 1970s and, although they run the business with their daughter Frédérique, the latter is in de facto control of the estate and winemaking at the property. The vineyards are spread over nine hectares (22 acres) on the gentle slope of the Pomerol plateau, neighboring Château Trotanoy and Château L'Église Clinet. Soil types vary throughout the vineyard, with pure clay, a mix of clay and sand, and gravel. Most of the vines (around 90 percent) are Merlot, with Cabernet Franc accounting for around ten percent. Grapes are harvested by hand on a parcel-by-parcel basis and vinified in temperature-controlled cement vats of varying sizes. Bourgneuf is aged in French oak for 12 to 14 months, with one-third new oak and the remainder divided between second-use and third-use barrels. Château Bourgneuf now has the same name in all markets but was sold as Château Bourgneuf Vayron in some countries for several decades until around 2012.
