Producer Information
Château de Pressac is a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé wine estate based in the commune of Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, at the very eastern end of the Saint-Emilion appellation. It is a recent addition to the Grand Cru stable, having been promoted in the 2012 edition of the classification. The 47-hectare (116-acre) estate lies in the center of the commune, on a prominent rise just north of the small village of Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse. The well-known Château Valandraud (and Château Rol Valentin) lie just under one kilometer (0.6 miles) to the northeast. Fellow 2012 arrival, Château Faugères, neighbors Pressac to the southeast. The Château de Pressac vineyards cover some 41 hectares (101 acres) with a terraced section on the steep slope to the west of the château building. The soils are predominantly iron-rich clay-limestone on a limestone bedrock. The vineyards are planted to six varieties with Merlot predominating (just over 70 percent). Other varieties on the property include Cabernet Franc (16 percent), Cabernet Sauvignon (nine percent), Carmenère (two percent) and Malbec – also called "Noir de Pressac" – (two percent). A tiny fraction of Petit Verdot is reportedly planted but this rarely figures on blending statistics.
