Producer Information
Enclos Tourmaline is a micro-winery located in the Pomerol AOC/AOP of Bordeaux. It is a rare newly created property in the appellation, making a single red wine from the Merlot grape variety. The property name comes from the tourmaline stone, a multicolor gemstone sometimes called the watermelon stone. It is also intended to reflect the multifaceted terrior. "Enclos" is similar to the English "enclosed", coming from the French "en clos" - essentially "walled-in". The label was begun by Vignobles K in 2011, with a single parcel of vines surrounded by Château Clinet on the top of the Pomerol plateau. The first vintage was the 2012. with only around 1,000 bottles produced. The 2013 vintage was skipped to to the difficult weather conditions. Since 2015, additional plots have been added, one bordering Château La Fleur-Pétrus, and a third next to Le Pin. These prestigious neighbors indicate the quality of the terroir of Tourmaline. All three sites add up to less than one hectare (2.5 acres) of land. Soils are a combination of blue clay and "crasse de fer" gravel that is typical of these parts of Pomerol.
