      Detailed Description

A dominance of white peach and lime on both the nose and the polished palate could (yet again this vintage!) have come from Riesling. But the wine also benefits from subtly earthy, nutty and invigoratingly incisive contributions of turnip, fresh spinach and cress. It finishes with sappy, resonant persistence, a cyanic glow of peach kernel reinforcing bites of peppery cress.

                                            Producer Information

The vineyard is located in the middle of the Wachau in Weißenkirchen, in the high terraced area with south-west exposure. The floors are made of gneiss and primary slate rock. The vineyard has only 0.3 ha and is planted with vines that are 60 years old. This clone is an unusual one today with much more loosely packed berries on small clusters and other foliage, which corresponds to the trickling effect. The expansion takes place in 800 liter barrels, two-year-old wood in the second and third use, as always harvested completely free of botrytis, manual harvest, fermentation, then maceration for 3-4 hours, whole cluster crushing, extremely slow pressing, spontaneous fermentation. Alcohol 13.5°. The wine tastes completely different than the expected GC Smaragd expression. A small hint of ice candy, lychee, kiwi, light white peach, pineapple and lemongrass on the nose - fresh and classy. Fine salt, fine white pepper and rock flour, white currant. Tension in the mouth with fairly high acidity. (Acid around 6.5 grams) Grandiose, but very fine, spicy bitterness over the pear fruit with pineapple, a little like the inner core of a pineapple, with the slight bitter note. Melon, fennel, caraway, yellow fruit, yellow plum, very long, very racy at the end. Never getting too fat, always maintaining balance, always staying compact. Extremely nice to drink Grüner Veltliner with sublime size.
