      Detailed Description

The 2018 Prince of Hearts is dark, sensual, and inviting. Merlot plays the leading role in the 2018, giving the wine striking depth, texture, and resonance. Dark cherry, mocha, spice, and new leather all flesh out in this pliant, super-expressive wine. All the elements are so impeccably balanced.

        Reviews:

        • James Suckling: Checking in as close to an even split of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with around 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2018 Prince Of Hearts Red offers a stunning, Bordeaux-like nose of red and black currants, new leather, lead pencil, graphite, and bouquet garni. With medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture, classy background oak, and a great finish, this head turner has plenty of richness, yet it's the balance, purity, and texture that keep you coming back to the glass. Bravo!
        • Wine Advocate: The 2018 Prince of Hearts Paradise Hills Vineyard is composed of 48.8% Merlot, 48.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.7% Cabernet Franc and 1.2% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out of the glass with notes of black plum preserves, Morello cherries, black raspberries and redcurrant jelly with suggestions of cedar chest, menthol, pencil lead and cardamom. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has great intensity with a real skip in its step, featuring bold, crunchy fruit and rounded tannins with seamless freshness and a fragrant finish

        Producer Information

Blankiet Estate is a wine producer established in 1996 in the Napa Valley, California. The estate vineyard, Paradise Hills, overlooks Yountville at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, and is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The vineyard is perched on a steep slope above Dominus Estate's famous Napanook vineyard. The Paradise Hills is split into four parcels, each section distinguishable by its soils and climate. The vineyards face east, and have significant diurnal temperature variation that helps the grapes reach full phenolic ripeness while retaining acidity. Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in the parts of the vineyard that have porous volcanic soils, whereas Merlot is planted in soils of deep alluvial clay. Blankiet Estate employs viticulturist David Abreu and winemaker Helen Turley, who worked together to develop the vineyard, sourcing rootstocks, and grafting them with clones from first growth estates in Bordeaux. Harvest takes place as the parcels ripen, and everything is done by hand, from harvest, to inspection and sorting. The Grapes are cold macerated for a week before the fruit is warmed to kick-start alcoholic fermentation. The wines are regularly pumped-over during ferment and, once this is complete, the wine is transferred to new French oak barrels in a warm cellar for malolactic fermentation. After this period, the barrels are transferred to colder areas of the winery building for a two-year maturation period, before being bottled without filtration or fining.
