        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: This was considered a great, great vintage in northern California, but not all wines have aged well. This one is a powerful mouthful of very direct, ripe berry fruit flavours that still seem young and aromas of spice and blackberry. (EM)
        • Jeb Dunnock: Talaos is a big, sexy, fruit-loaded red offering lots of blueberry and wild strawberry fruit as well as notes of candied orange and exotic flowers. Medium to full-bodied, soft, and up-front, it's one of those wines that carries lots of sweet, forward fruit yet still stays light on its feet and has purity and balance.

        Producer Information

The name of the Cave de Abbé Rous goes back to the pastor Francois Rous, who went into the wine trade to raise money for the enlargement of his church and was significantly involved in the development of the wines of Banyuls and Collioure. The vineyards of Banyuls (Collioure is the name for dry Banyuls from the same area) in the foothills of the Pyrenees are among the most beautiful in the world with their steep slopes towards the Mediterranean. The talented winemaker Jean-Marc Lafage has been in charge of Abbé Rous since 2019, which has led to a further improvement in the already high quality. The portfolio includes dry white and red wines, as well as, of course, various variants of the characterful liqueur wine Banyuls. This is fortified in a similar way to port wine, but usually has a little less alcohol. Another special feature is the aging in barrels, which are deliberately exposed to the weather (see picture above, the red barriques). This accelerates the development of ripeness and creates a very unique taste profile.
