White Wine: 2019 | Marc Colin | Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs

Elegant wine. Here the nose also flirts with reduction though the underlying fruit is clearly ripe with wisps of citrus influence. Flavors that possess an attractive mouthfeel while displaying fine length on the slightly warm finale. This too is a wine of finesse.Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, with lively acids, its outlines are promising.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gain opens in the glass with hints of nutmeg, pear, peach, white flowers and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, with lively acids, its outlines are promising.
        • Vinous: The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Champs Gain 1er Cru is more reserved on the nose compared to the Chenevottes, touches of lemon rind and light fumé aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a crisp opening. Quintessentially Chassagne, there are lovely orange pith and tangerine notes coming through towards the finish with a long spicy aftertaste tinged with crème brûlée. Excellent.

        Producer Information

Domaine Marc Colin et Fils is wine estate based in Saint-Aubin, in the Côte de Beaune subregion of a Burgundy. The domaine is particularly known for its local Chardonnay wines – a hallmark of the region, although Pinot Noir is also grown – spanning both Saint-Aubin and neighboring appellations. It was created by Marc Colin and his wife Michèle in the 1970s from plots inherited from the Colin and Ponavoy families. At the start, their holdings totalled six hectares (15 acres) in Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin. Today the estate, run by three of the Colin's children, extends to 19 hectares (47 acres) over multiple appellations, including parcels in Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay. It had been larger but, in 2005, eldest son Pierre-Yves took his share of the vineyards to work separately, establishing the highly regarded Pierre-Yves Colin Morey domaine in Chassagne-Montrachet. Marc Colin's annual production totals around 120,000 bottles per year. Some 70 percent of this is white wine, ranging from Bourgogne Aligoté and Chardonnay through to Le Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. The domaine also produces nine different white Saint-Aubin Premier Cru wines. Marc Colin also makes five red wines, headed by a Santenay Premier Cru La Comme.
