        Producer Information

Matiashvili Wine Cellar is Bio-Organic winery based in kakheti region. During the independence of Georgia, Merab Matiashvili has restored the family house and the cellar, has purchased more lands for vineyards and starts the production of Qvevri Bio wine. During these years, Matiashvili wine cellar participates in the local and international bio wine exhibitions. The history of “matiashvili wine Cellar” goes back to 19th century and is related to the name of our great grandfather Mikheil Matiashvili, who, in his own village Jugaani (tibaani micro-zone), spreader on Alazani valley, started to cultivate tobacco plantations and vineyards. Alazani valley from the old times was know as the best place for viniculture and most of the land was occupied by Georgian Royalfamily vineyards. The passion of great grandpa “Mikho” grew into successful business, in fact even today the villagers still remember his name and can point the land plots, which belonged to him. Unfortunately, during bolshevik occupation the business of Mikheil matiashvili was taken and nationalised. From 1960’s mikheil’s sons – medical doctors, Giorgi and Aleksander matiashvili decided to continue the family tradition of making Qvevri (clay amphora) wine. Their efforts were modest but fruitful as since 1980’s Merab, son of Aleksander, also Medical doctor, got involved into the mysterious process of Qvevri winemaking. During the independence of Georgia, since 2001 Merab Matiashvili has restored the family house and the cellar, has purchased more lands for vineyards and starts production of “Matiashvili Wine Cellar” Qvevri bio wine. From 2013 Merab joins the team of “Our wine” company, where he participates in the whole process of wine production, in parallel with his own wine. During these years Matiashvili Wine cellar participates in the local and international bio wine exhibitions. Since 2020 Matiashvili Wine Cellar starts to operate independently. Today we produce 3000 bottles of red, rose and amber wine and 2000 bottles of Chacha, annually. Our vineyards are cultivated on the slopes of Alazani Valley, in Tibaani and Kardenakhi micro-zones, in Kakheti. Wine is sold in several EU countries, Israel, USA and Japan. The goal is to raise the quantity an keep the standard of highest quality bio wine, one can find on market, worldwide.
