        Producer Information

Nira and Alon Zadok, a pioneering couple who also helped found Moshav Kadesh Barnea (Nitzanei Sinai), chose to establish a unique and pioneering winery, despite the disparaging notions they received from wine experts who claimed it would be impossible to produce quality grapes in the desert. In 1997, the couple planted 10 dunams of cabernet sauvignon grapes, and in 2000 they made their first limited edition desert wine with 3,000 bottles. Following the enthusiastic response they received, they decided to plant another 10 dunams of grapes and increase production to 5,000 bottles. In 2003, they stopped selling their grapes to other wineries, and began to use the harvest from their entire vineyard to produce 15,000 bottles of wine. In 2006, the small winery was already producing 25,000 bottles, and the family planted another 30 dunams of rare grapes they believed would suit the desert conditions. Wine production is influenced by its growing region, and the Ramat Negev Winery strives to produce wine from a selection of Negev vineyards, greeting wine lovers with a rare tasting experience. Out of desire for nature preservation and living in harmony with the environment, the winery has engrained sound ecological practices into its activities. The winery maintains, to the best of its ability, the balance between humans and nature using desalinated water, preserving soil by shredding the pruning and burying it in the ground, and abstaining from the use of pesticides and herbicides.
